For physicians — Life & family

A move for the whole family.

Most physicians who move to the Gulf move with a partner and children. The questions that decide the move are rarely clinical: where you live, where the children go to school, and how often you fly home.

Housing

Most hospitals provide furnished housing or a housing allowance. Many international families live in compounds with pools, gyms and schools nearby; others prefer an apartment in the city. We check what the package covers before you sign.

Schools

German-curriculum schools exist in the main cities: the Deutsche Internationale Schule Riad, the German International School Jeddah, and German international schools in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah. British, American and IB schools are widely available. An education allowance is often part of a consultant package.

Everyday life
  • English is the working language in hospitals. Arabic helps with patients but is not required.
  • The weekend is Friday and Saturday in Saudi Arabia, and Saturday and Sunday in the UAE.
  • Frankfurt is around six hours' flight from Riyadh, Dubai and Abu Dhabi, and an annual return flight for the family is part of most packages.
Family and visas

Your employer sponsors your residence visa and, as a rule, those of your spouse and children. A partner who wants to work needs their own work permit. We raise this at the start, not after the offer.

Before you decide

We talk through the city, the hospital and the package with you, and with your partner if you wish, before any profile is shared. You decide each step.

Visa rules, school places and benefits differ by country, emirate and employer. We confirm the details for each offer.
