Qatar's Department of Healthcare Professions classifies qualifications into categories. A German specialty certificate is named directly in Category 1 — recognition without examination.
General Note 6 is the clause to read first. A specialty title granted through an equivalency process, rather than earned by completing full specialty training, is treated as Category 3. Physicians who obtained their German title by recognition of a foreign qualification are in a different position from those who completed the German Weiterbildung, and the two should not assume the same route.
Beyond the years, Consultant grade requires two peer-reviewed publications as first or second author and recommendation letters, and it is awarded by the employing facility's committee. This is the most common reason a senior European clinician is offered Specialist grade in Qatar and cannot understand why.
